TIM Client Manager


Job title: TIM Client Manager
Reports to: Senior Management
Job purpose Manage customer implementation and use of our on-demand virtual portfolio management application for brokers, asset managers, and hedge funds. Encourage user take-up within nominated accounts.
Role context:
  • The Trade Idea Monitor (the TIM) is the first open web-delivered virtual portfolio management application for brokers and their clients. We developed the TIM with four core customers in 2005, and launched the TIM as a service worldwide in February 2006. We have gained over 100 buy and sell-side customers in Europe, Africa, the Far East and America during the first year of operation.
  • Brokers use the TIM to deliver trade ideas to their clients (hedge funds and more traditional asset managers), by building virtual portfolios. Buy-side clients use the TIM to measure the contribution of their brokers, and to determine their commission share.
  • A TIM implementation is successful when sales or research authors at brokers, and analysts at buy-side clients, use the product to convey all their ideas to portfolio managers, and when the portfolio manager bases trading commission decisions on the statistics the TIM provides.
  • TIM Client Managers are assigned to a group of brokers and/or buy-side clients that use the TIM. The Client Manager’s role is to help the assigned companies derive maximum value from the TIM, to drive customer take-up, to inspire confidence in the product and in YouDevise, and to display leadership and independence at clients’ sites.
  • TIM Client Managers are measured on customer satisfaction and on the increase in take-up within their accounts.
Key responsibilities:
    TIM Client Managers help their assigned customers gain maximum value from the TIM. To this end, TIM Client Managers have the following responsibilities in their assigned accounts:

  • Expand the TIM subscriber base within the assigned account and within the brokers or clients that the assigned account works with.
  • Build TIM usage among existing subscribers within the assigned account and within the brokers or clients that the assigned account works with.
  • Train end-users and help them to troubleshoot problems, identify defects and report them to our Development team.
  • Identify useful new features, and work with our Development and Product Management organisations to implement those features.
  • Oversee user administration.
  • Oversee invoicing and collections.
Key working relationships:
  • You will work as part of small development teams consisting of developers and business analysts. While you will report to senior management, you will work with colleagues that will impress you and help you.

Remuneration

HIP Client Manager


Job title: HIP Client Manager
Reports to: Senior Management
Job purpose Manage client implementation and use of our on-demand portfolio management application for funds-of-hedge-funds.
Role context:
  • The Hedge Fund Information Provider (the HIP) is the first commercially available web-delivered portfolio management application for funds-of-hedge-funds. We launched the HIP in May 2006. We have a growing user base in the UK and increasingly in other regions.
  • Funds-of-hedge-funds use the HIP to manage performance, liquidity, cash, and foreign exchange exposure. It can also provide automated links with fund-of-hedge-funds’ administrators and investors, and with the hedge funds in which they invest.
  • A HIP implementation is successful when a client enters its entire portfolio of hedge fund investments into the HIP and is reliant on the HIP for a broad range of portfolio management activities.
  • Client Managers are assigned to a group of companies that use the HIP. The Client Manager’s role is to help the client derive maximum value from the HIP, to inspire confidence in the product and in YouDevise, and to display leadership and independence at client sites.
Key responsibilities:
  • Work with new HIP clients to decide strategies for HIP implementation and to develop implementation plans. This requires understanding the structure of the client’s data and matching that understanding with a deep knowledge of the HIP’s features and data migration tools.
  • Assist and sometimes manage HIP implementations, including analysis of source data, migration of data into the HIP, and reconciliation of HIP output with pre-HIP systems and with data provided by administrators.
  • Monitor clients’ ongoing usage of the HIP. Help clients to realise greater value from the HIP by identifying any opportunities for greater usage within their organisation.
  • Train end-users and help them to troubleshoot problems.
  • Identify defects and report them to our Development team.
  • Identify new features that will enhance the value that clients derive from the HIP. Write specifications to communicate new features to our Product Management and Development teams. Help Product Management and Development to prioritise and implement new features.
  • Provide sales support such as demonstrating the HIP to prospective clients.
  • Test new features to ensure compliance with business requirements and the highest standards of usability.
  • Test new releases to prevent regression of pre-existing functionality.

  • You will work as part of a team that includes business analysts, developers, and product managers. You will report to senior management. You will work with colleagues that will impress you and help you.

Job purpose Functional design and oversight of new applications.
Role context:
  • Our trade ideas and fund-of-hedge-funds products are implemented at existing clients. We are continuously enhancing them with new features and customising them for new customers.
  • We will develop new applications that exploit our technical and industry skills, and our strong customer relationships in the finance sector.
  • We create value for our customers through our excellence in functional design and our thoroughness in testing, as well as through our technical expertise.
Key responsibilities:
  • Producing functional designs of new applications and enhancements by working with senior-level clients to develop requirements specifications.
  • Testing new applications and enhancements to ensure compliance with business requirements and the highest standards of usability.
  • Conceptualising new applications that create value for financial market participants.

Java Developer


Job title: Java developer
Reports to: Chief Technology Officer
Job purpose: Development of our on-demand applications for financial markets.
Role context:
  • We develop and operate web-based applications using open-source technology for top-tier brokers, investment managers, and the alternative investment sector. Our current applications include the Trade Idea Monitor, the Trade Ideas Repository and Distribution Centre, and the Hedge Fund Information Provider.
  • Our applications are dynamic and mathematically complex. They need to be ultra-secure and high-speed, and yet easily accessible to our global client base.
  • Our applications address the finance industry's leading-edge business and regulatory requirements. They are transforming the industry landscape in the sectors where we compete.
  • We use and contribute to open source technologies such as Apache Tomcat, Hibernate, and MySQL.
  • We continuously evaluate agile development techniques and tools such as test-driven development, pair programming, and continuous integration, and incorporate them into our development processes when useful.
  • Our developers work interactively with our customers and with our internal business analysts.
  • We have an active research programme focussed on improving and expanding our core technology.
  • We expect our developers to develop rapidly, deploy new code weekly, test constantly, and help us continuously to improve our development processes.
Key responsibilities:
  • Complete new features and bug fixes for our web-based finance sector applications, using open source technologies and agile development techniques. This responsibility includes design and unit testing of each new feature or change to meet our weekly release schedules.
  • Assist in developing functional designs for our applications by working with our internal business analysts and with our customers at leading brokerage companies, asset managers, and alternative investment firms.
  • Contribute to the architectural design of our applications by evaluating and choosing development techniques and tools, improving and expanding our core technologies, selecting design patterns, and refactoring our application code.
Key working relationships:
  • We keep our development teams small. Each member of our development teams has a focus on either architecture or business analysis. You will report to the CTO. You will work in a fast-paced industry with customers who will challenge you. You will work with colleagues that will impress you and help you.

Candidates will have at least three years’ coding experience including experience in all or most of the following products: Java, MySQL, JDBC, Javascript, HTML, JUnit, Apache FOP, and awk. It will be a strong advantage to have experience in some or all of the following products: Python, AJAX, Ant, Eclipse, vi, and JSP. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate experience (or at least a strong interest) in agile techniques, and should be able to demonstrate experience with a modern functional language such as Ruby, Haskell, Scheme, Lisp, or Erlang. An interest in finance is a further advantage.

Technical Support Analyst


Job title: Technical Support Analyst
Reports to: Operations and Technical Support Manager
Job purpose: Technical support for finance sector applications
Role context:
  • Our clients receive highly competent levels of technical support from staff that are customer-oriented, developer-capable, and knowledgeable in the finance sector. We require talented individuals to support new and existing applications.
Key responsibilities:
  • Monitor application availability and performance against targets, and take short-term remedial actions. Monitor technical system errors and take short-term remedial actions. Identify and pursue improvement opportunities.
  • Provide technical support for our applications and our application infrastructure (for example hosting problems, network issues, problems with market data feeds). This involves working with open source products such as Linux, MySQL, and Apache Tomcat.
  • Perform or oversee operational activities for our applications such as corporate actions, data administration, data imports, test restores, escrow deposits, etc.
  • Assist in release management including participation in daily/weekly/release testing, with focus on operations testing. Perform physical releases into production.
  • Provide back up application support for our finance sector applications.
Key working relationships:
  • You will work as part of a team that also includes developers and client managers. You will report to our Operations and Technical Support Manager, and you will work with colleagues that will impress you and help you.
