What we do

While our production applications are externally hosted and maintained, we have an unusually eclectic and complex internal IT setup.

Our developers use a cluster of over 40 Windows, Mac, and Linux servers to run extensive automated tests throughout the day and night, and they have top-of-the-line Linux machines on their desks, many with Windows VMs for local testing.

Our sales staff travel the world with a wide range of laptops running Windows XP and Windows 7 and a variety of mobile phones, mainly Blackberries; we have several salespeople based in other countries for whom we provide remote support from London using a sophisticated monitoring tool. And our phone system and internal network service our 40 London employees, soon to be on two floors of our building.

We have no specialists within IT; we expect IT staff to be able to handle the full range of user and maintenance requests, and provide training as needed to ensure this. It helps that our developers and many salespeople are sophisticated IT users themselves and can often provide guidance.

We use external vendors and consultants as needed, for instance to configure new kit or to advise us on the best server to purchase. All IT staff work with these vendors and have the opportunity to learn from them.

We use a wide variety of software, such as Windows Server 2003, Ubuntu, MySQL, PHP, Apache, Selenium, Hudson, Puppet, KVM, VMWare, Nagios, and Subversion. We don't expect applicants to have specific experience with any of these, though it is always useful!

What you do:

You will provide 1st and 2nd line support for all IT equipment (servers, desktops, laptops, mobile phones and fixed-line phones) from our London HQ.

You will arrange for the purchase, installation, monitoring, and maintenance of all IT equipment.

Liaise with third party suppliers to provide additional support for our activities.

Monitor vendor activities and address any problems in delivery.

Help to prioritise requests from users and ongoing maintenance requests.

Recommend improvements to equipment, processes and more efficient ways of working.
