YDL Enhances TIM for Advanced Stock Trading Strategies

24th January 2010

youDevise Limited has introduced new features on the Trade Idea Monitor (the TIM) for advanced stock trading strategies, such as:

  • Hedged ideas – contributors can suggest a specific hedge for a particular trade idea.
  • Sector, regional or complex investment plays – contributors can build a list of stocks to buy or short to gain the best exposure to a sector, region, or other moving segment of the market
  • Relative Trades - contributors can speculate on the convergence or divergence of the prices between two stocks

The new features, which are available immediately, enable users to create:

  • Trade Pairs:  A single idea based on two stocks, for construction of a hedged idea or relative trade
  • Trade Baskets:  A single idea based on up to five stocks, to assemble a sector or regional investment play

The new features allow contributors to define a significantly greater range of more complex ideas, while further automating the way brokers create and track the performance of advanced equity trade ideas for clients.

The Fast & Easy Way to Build & Track Complex Trades

  • To create a stock trading strategy using TIM Pairs or Baskets, brokers simply:
  • Choose component stocks, ETFs or listed indexes
  • Indicate which are long or short
  • Assign how much money should be invested in each
  • Select which clients should receive the idea

Automatic price stamping of components upon sending the idea to clients and the closing of the idea, combined with live intraday pricing, enables TIM users to track performance as a single investment, on an absolute and relative basis, in real time while the idea is still open, and historically when it is closed.

Other features include:

  • Stop loss alerts on each component or the complete pair or basket
  • Autoclose on the performance of the complete pair or basket
  • Tracking of the performance of each component

More Value for Brokerage Firms & Investment Managers

youDevise developed the new features to help brokers increase commission revenue through the promotion of different kinds of trades and more value-added and proprietary trades, and to help investment managers generate higher returns through the use of such trades.  Brokers who send ideas to clients via the TIM are typically paid in commissions or cash based on performance.

Based on what market professionals are telling youDevise, the timing is particularly appropriate. With volatility increasing, investing in single stocks has become riskier, leading to a focus not just on stock targets, but also on ways to hedge trades.  While many funds were able to ride the market last year, many are focusing this year on relative valuations.  Trade pairs and baskets allow portfolio managers to do this very specifically. A relative trade, for example, is where a potential gap can open or close, depending on how the trade idea is constructed, between two share prices or indexes, or a share price and an index.  Such trades are not dependent on overall market direction per se, but that the gap between the two prices expands or contracts.

How to switch on pairs and baskets in TIM

Pairs and baskets are included within your annual subscription.  There is no additional charge for using the feature.  In order to have the feature switched on, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
